Workshop Schedule
2-Day Workshop Agenda
Two intensive days of hands-on learning, collaborative planning, and mathematical discovery. Every session combines theory with immediate practical application.
Day One
Foundations: History, Philosophy & Methodology
Opening: The Crisis in Math Education & The CTC Vision
Why students struggle with math, what the research says, and how teaching from original sources transforms understanding.
Session 1: The 'From Euler' Methodology
Introduction to teaching mathematics through its historical development. How Euler, Euclid, and Newton approached problems — and how to bring that approach into your classroom.
Session 2: Euclid's Elements in the Modern Classroom
Hands-on workshop: Teaching geometry through Euclid's original propositions. Compass-and-straightedge constructions. Making proofs accessible and exciting for students.
Session 3: Mastery-Based Progression — Counting to Calculus
Building a coherent mathematical pathway. Singapore Math's CPA approach meets classical education's logical rigor. Identifying and filling gaps in student understanding.
Session 4: The Philosophy of Mathematics
What is mathematics? Why does it work? Exploring the foundations of mathematical truth and how philosophical understanding deepens both teaching and learning.
Day 1 Reflection & Collaborative Planning
Japanese Lesson Study model: Teachers work in groups to plan a lesson using the day's methods. Share insights and questions.
Day Two
Application: Proofs, Practice & Implementation
Session 5: Teaching Proofs — From Fear to Joy
Why students fear proofs, and how to make them the most exciting part of math class. Scaffolding proof skills from elementary through high school. Hands-on proof workshop.
Session 6: Number Sense & the Historical Number Line
How civilizations developed number systems. Teaching arithmetic through historical context. The Math Recovery approach to diagnosing and building number sense.
Session 7: Bringing Joy to Mathematics
NCTM's effective teaching practices in action. Creating mathematical discourse. Supporting productive struggle. Making every student feel like a mathematician.
Session 8: Hands-On Lab — Implementing CTC in Your Classroom
Practical workshop: Adapt CTC methods to your specific grade level and curriculum. Create lesson plans you can use immediately. Work with original mathematical texts.
Session 9: Building a Mathematical Community
Illustrative Mathematics' professional learning model. How to sustain growth after the workshop. Building lesson study groups at your school. Ongoing CTC support resources.
Closing: Lesson Presentations & Certification
Groups present their collaboratively designed lessons. Feedback and celebration. Certificate of completion and CEU documentation. Next steps for your CTC journey.
